Evelyn Hugo's Dressing Table
STUDENT WORK | GRAPHIC PROPS | ILLUSTRATION | GRAPHIC DESIGN | PERIOD
This series of graphic props is a result of my attendance to Annie Atkins' Design for Film and TV workshop in Dublin in December 2022. During the workshop, we were tasked with creating graphic props for a character, and I selected the character Evelyn Hugo from Taylor Jenkins Reid's novel, 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.' Evelyn is a glamorous Hollywood starlet who rose to fame in the 50s and 60s, which provides a place and time period - both rich with visual references from which I can begin my research.
The themes in the book that I hoped to reflect in my work include love, beauty, fame and ambition.
Not only did I make and design props for this project, but I also built a 1950s inspired dressing table and sourced additional vintage-style props to dress my set and further establish the time period. The final outcome of this set design was featured at the University of Brighton's 2023 BA graduate summer exhibition and online exhibition, which you can view here.
