Alternate History: Folklore

These graphics were created as part of a university project in which I imagined mythological and paranormal creatures placed within new historical contexts.

In every piece, I incorporated elements of the creature’s traditional lore. For example, the siren poster references the deadly allure of a siren’s song to sailors, while the vampire poster hints at the folklore rule that vampires must be invited into a home.

Each design draws on a different historical visual style. The siren poster is inspired by 1940s wartime propaganda, the vampire poster echoes the aesthetic of posters from the 20th-century Second Red Scare, and the zombie leaflet is a direct parody of the “Protect and Survive” booklet distributed to British households during the Cold War in the 1970s. All illustrations are my own.
